Research, Education, & Outreach

The University of Michigan is a long-standing leader in interdisciplinary research and teaching related to environmental sustainability.

One example of this interdisciplinary approach is the Erb Institute for Global Sustainable Enterprise, which is a partnership between the Ross School of Business and the School of Natural Resources (SNRE) and Environment. The Institue offers a three-year MBA/M.S. program, which is the largest of its kind worldwide.

SNRE also offers a four-year M.S./J.D. program with the University of Michigan Law School as well as the Engineering Sustainable Systems (ESS) degree program, a 2.5 year M.S/M.S.E with the College of Engineering.

The Graham Environmental Sustainability Institute exists to advance, connect and leverage multidisciplinary environmental research, education and outreach efforts across the University of Michigan. The Institute reports to the Provost and is a partnership of eight U-M schools and colleges.

The Michigan Memorial Phoenix Energy Institute is charting a path to a secure, affordable and sustainable energy future by applying the U-M's strengths in public policy, economics, business and social sciences.
